In Exodus 16, we read about God feeding the children of Israel with daily manna.
Then the Lord said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you.
And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not. (Ex 16:4)
Just a few days ago, they were living completely different lives. They used to prepare their meals in the comfort of their own homes and eat whenever they felt like it. But now, everything was about to change.
As per God's instructions, the people were required to collect their manna in the morning and only gather enough for each family member. They were not allowed to gather extra or save the manna for the next day. This manna from heaven would give the children of Israel all the strength and energy needed to continue pressing toward their Promised Land.
Scripture teaches us that this was done to test the people, to see if they would obey God. As I studied this chapter a few days ago, I knew the Lord was showing me something important – for all of us.
Once again, we find ourselves headed toward the Promised Land of God, the promises God has given each of us. In this place, we, like the children of Israel, must partake of daily manna.
Of course, it is not something to be rained down from heaven. It is something we already have access to—but we must partake of it daily, each and every day. We cannot and will not be strengthened by yesterday's manna; we need fresh manna to continue marching toward our promises.
What is this manna?
So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. (Dt. 8:3)
It is the Word of the Living God.
This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever. (Jn 6:58)
It is Jesus.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. (Jn 1:1)
And it is both, as one.
My friends, we are in a pivotal time. If we do not partake of daily manna, we will not have the steadfast faith to enter our Promised Land. Yesterday’s manna was great; we thank God for it. But we need fresh manna for today.
We need a fresh word every day. I am not talking about a prophetic word from someone else. No! I am talking about a fresh word from the Word of God – the never-failing Word of God. We all have access to it, but are we partaking in it?
I hear people say all the time, “I don’t have time to read my Bible every day.” These same people spend hours daily on social media. Perhaps, if our Bibles were in our hands as much as our phones are, we would be walking in continual victory.
I guess it comes down to what is important to us.
Do we want to walk in God's consistent blessings? If so, reading His Word daily is a must—it's not an option. Today, we cannot overcome without spending daily time with God and His Word—not every now and then, not even only on Sunday.
There are wells of living water just waiting for you and I. There is fresh manna available to you each and every day. Will you partake of it?
Yesterday’s manna will not do – we must have fresh manna daily. Begin today eating of all that has been prepared for you – the Word of the Living God - eat, be filled, and prosper, in Jesus' name.
